As the name itself evinces, MarGene- Marketing in our genes, is the student club of NMIMS Bangalore, for people harbouring a passion for marketing. It’s a perfect blend of spontaneity and creativity. The club is a platform to channel your marketing creativity and explore various dimensions of this field. From solving corporate case studies to real life marketing knockouts, from unleashing the creative territories of advertisement to enriching discussions with top corporates, this club through its various inter and intra college events gives the novice marketer a chance to develop his skills and test the water, before foraying into the corporate world.

We at MarGene strive to experience the various concepts of marketing taught in classroom, through interaction with eminent experts from the industry, peer learning and events. Our events primarily focus on the core problems that nowadays all businesses face and ensure that the participants come up with ideas about how to solve them thus benefitting the corporate fraternity to a larger extent. MarGene Mantra is to build something that 100 people love, not something that 1 million people kind of like.

Markopolis:

Markopolis is the Flagship pan-India event of MarGene. It is a unique platform to test one’s marketing skills, where one gets to work on a live case study. Since its inception in 2013, it has grown manifold and had been supported and appreciated by top companies like Dollar, Prestige, Airtel, Uber, Zo Rooms, Raymond’s, Coca-Cola, Protein X & Volkswagen. Conducted in 3 phases, the first round of this National level event is an online quiz, followed by presenting an abstract of a case study. For the final round, the shortlisted teams are invited to our campus where they get the chance to present their solution and ideas to the esteemed jury. This year, IMT Ghaziabad and IIFT, Delhi emerged as the winners of this coveted title, over the hundreds of colleges that had applied for the event.

Marketing Conclave:

MarGene also started a new saga and added a new chapter in its annual calendar by hosting the very first edition of Marketing Conclave, which revolved around the theme- ‘The Millionth Millennial’. When keynote speakers like Ms. Sonia Kathuria from Chai and Chant and Dr. Anvitha Prabhakara from Aditya Birla Group grace an event, it is needless to mention that it was a mammoth success.

There was also a panel discussion with Mr. Harsh Dhand, CEO and Founder of Rentsher, Mr. Mayank Jain, regional business manager at Titan and Mr. Sahil Puri, area sales manager at Panasonic moderated by Mr. Manish Tyagi, a Stand-Up Comedian and 6 times Tedx Speaker.

Corporate Connect:

Ms. Sonia Kathuria, an IIT Delhi alumna and founder of Chai and Chant is a dynamic professional with over 15 years of competency and entrepreneurial experience with top five leading real estate developers of India-Aerens Gold Souk International Ltd., DLF Universal Ltd., Paras Buildtech, TDI Infrastructure Ltd. and Orris Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd.  with an excellent track record of raising project profitability.

Dr. Anvitha Prabhakara is currently working as Asst. Vice President Marketing at Aditya Birla Group with a 15 years’ experience across various sectors. As a Marketing and Business Strategy Professional she has worked in MNC’s such as Castrol, Idea Cellular Limited and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. handling roles as Product and Brand Manager.

Mr. Mayank Jain, Regional Business Manager, Titan, is a firm believer of the quote, ‘Function of a leader is to produce future Leaders, not mere Followers,’ thus making him a good coach of the team. His contribution in the portfolios like Franchisee Management, Topline Growth, Business Development etc have been original and very valuable.

Mr. Sahil Puri is currently the Area Sales Manager at Panasonic. He is highly motivated, diligent and has a great passion for marketing. He found his calling in marketing from the 2nd year of under grad and since then he thinks that the more, he dwells into it, the more he ends up liking the field.

Mr. Harsh Dhand is the Founder, CEO of Rentsher, which is an online rental marketplace. He has been associated with IBM as the senior business development manager and Philips as a research scientist.

An IIT Delhi and Said Business School, University of Oxford alumnus, he has developed deep insights in technology innovation and strategy.

Intra College Events:

The club organises plethora of intra college events to engage students in various marketing, brands and advertisement related activities. We thrive to surprise our participants with new events every year.

The first event for the year is Tagathon. It is an online event aimed at stimulating interactions and strengthening bonds between students, by using brands as a medium. All the students are open to take up the Tagathon challenge wherein you need to tag a friend of yours with a brand that you think he can be if he would turn into a Brand for one day based on his personality and write about the connect with the brand tagline. The event was viral of Facebook and had enthralling participation. Winners take home customised MarGene goodies. The first event of the year was BrandStorm. With BrandStorm we tried to touch upon the key abilities a marketer must possess.

We also collaborate with other clubs and committees of our college and organize events with them. Arkaios and RajnitiShastra are two such management events which were organized during Nityaksh, the annual fest of NMIMS Bangalore, in collaboration with the cultural committee.
